How to create LiveUSB of Peppermint Linux in Windows

Peppermint OS is a Linux OS based on Ubuntu which is lightweight, stable and super fast. Peppermint Eight is built on a long term support (LTS) code base, so as well as being customizable to your heart’s content, will be “good to go” for quite some time. Peppermint Eight is built on the Ubuntu 16.04 code base.

The minimum requirements for installing Peppermint OS are 1GB of RAM, Processor based on Intel x86 architecture and at least 4GB of disk space. Here, we will be using Rufus to create the bootable LiveUSB of Peppermint OS in Windows. However there are other applications like UNetBootin, Universal USB Installer,etc that can achieve the same result. Please follow the steps below:

    1. Download Rufus and ISO Image of Peppermint OS from the main website. Select 32bit or 64bit depending on your requirements. I have chosen Peppermint 8 for this tutorial.
    2. Insert your USB drive into your PC.
    3. Run the Rufus application as administrator to write the ISO Image of Peppermint on the USB. Press the icon next to “FreeDOS” and select your Peppermint ISO image and Click on Start. Let other settings stay the same.

    4. A new window will appear asking you whether to install the Image ISO in ISO mode or DD mode. Choose ISO Image mode and Press OK.
    5. Now, Rufus will start its work and start making the bootable LiveUSB with Peppermint Linux in it. It will start writing the ISO image to the USB by extracting the files. All you need to do is wait and watch. It should take 5-10 minutes depending upon your system’s capacity.

    6. The process of creating bootable LiveUSB of Peppermint should be done. You should see a ” READY ” below the progress bar which means you are ready to boot up Peppermint OS and install it on your computer.
